Baseball season is here! Last season the Dodgers defeated the Yankees in the World Series. What will happen this year? Will Los Angeles repeat as World Series Champions? I will break down my predictions for the division winners and make my pick for the World Series.

AL East - Yankees

It was a heartbreaking ending for the Bronx Bombers losing to the Dodgers in 5 games. The 2024 New York Yankees won the AL East with a 94-68 record. The team was 3rd in MLB scoring 5.01 runs per game. However, they lost Juan Soto to the Mets and Gerrit Cole is now out for the year. Will the additions of Cody Bellinger, Max Fried, Paul Goldschmidt and Devin Williams be enough? Honestly, I would not be surprised if any of the 5 teams win the division. But I think New York is deep enough to repeat as division champs. They need the young guys to take the next step offensively and stay healthy as a whole.

AL Central - Tigers

The Tigers came out of nowhere in 2024 and got hot in the second half of the season. They made the postseason for the first time since 2015 and defeated the Houston Astros in the Wild Card Round. Detroit eventually lost to the Guardians in tragic fashion in game 5 of the AL Division Series. There is no reason to believe they won’t be back with a vengeance. Tarik Skubal is one of the best pitchers in the sport and is the favorite to repeat as the AL Cy Young winner. In addition they added two-time All Star Gleyber Torres to their offense. They have to hope that Riley Greene, Kerry Carpenter and Colt Keith are ready to continue to impress in the Big League.

AL West - Rangers

The Texas Rangers won only 78 games last year after winning the World Series in 2023. The biggest question mark for them is their health. Jacob deGrom, Evan Carter and Josh Jung all should be healthy this season. Texas added Joc Pederson and Jake Burger to a lineup full of studs. After seeing Kyle Tucker and Alex Bregman leave the Houston Astros, the Rangers should be ready to take back the division.

NL East - Braves

The NL East is stacked. The Mets just added Juan Soto and the Phillies have been a constant in the postseason the past few years. But I have to pick the team that had horrible injury luck and still managed to win 89 games last season. Ronald Acuna Jr. and Spencer Strider are expected back early in the year and the rest of the roster is loaded. You could argue that Matt Olson, Austin Riley and Michael Harris II could all get National League MVP votes this season. They have won six out of the last seven division titles and look to get back to their winning ways.

NL Central - Cubs

The NL Central is nothing to write home about. The Brewers have won the division three out of the last four years but Willy Adames and Devin Williams are no longer on the team. The Reds, Cardinals and Pirates might all fail to reach 80 wins. By the process of elimination, I’m taking the Cubs to snag the division. The Cubs lacked a true superstar on offense last season and acquired one in Kyle Tucker. Adding him to an offense with Seiya Suzuki and Ian Happ makes for a formidable offense. In addition, Justin Steele and Shota Imanaga should be able to continue dominating in the division.

NL West - Dodgers

This is the easiest division to predict by a landslide. The Dodgers were a juggernaut last season and added Roki Sasaki, Blake Snell, Tanner Scott, Kirby Yates and Michael Conforto this winter. Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts are a nightmare for every pitcher in Major League Baseball. The question really isn’t who is going to win the division. The real question is will the Dodgers become the best team of all-time and threaten the 1906 Cubs and 2001 Mariners for the most wins in MLB history?

Wild Card Predictions

AL Wild Card - Red Sox, Guardians, Mariners

NL Wild Card - Phillies, Mets, Padres

Ultimately, I see the Dodgers getting back to the World Series and defeating the Detroit Tigers in 5 games. Dave Roberts will hoist his third Commissioner's Trophy as a manager and Shohei Ohtani will win World Series MVP. There is a reason why the Dodgers have the shortest odds to win the World Series in over 20 years. They are absolutely stacked.
